On Page SEO Checklist

#2. Keyword Rich H1, H2, & H3 Tags
#3. Keyword Rich Hyperlink In First 160 Characters
#4. Keyword Rich SEO Tags
#5. Keyword Rich Images
BONUS: Keyword Density of 2% to 5%
Be sure to use the above list at all times when you are creating blog posts and optimizing them for the search engines. This little 5 step formula has lead me to the domination of numerous 1st page Google rankings and lots of traffic, leads and sales to go right along with it!
Core Component #1 – Keyword Rich Permalink
Before you write anything online, if you’re goal is to rank in the search engines, then you need to spend a little bit of time doing keyword research the proper way. Think of it as targeting your market. You want to write a blog post to target a certain type of person who is going to be searching for EXACTLY what your blog post is going to deliver. Figure out whatever keyword phrase that is, and include it in your permalink.
Core Component #2 – Keyword Rich H1, H2, & H3 Tags
Now, don’t over kill this, but if it’s convenient, slip a keyword in as many headline title tags as you can. If you are not familiar with what your H1, H2, or H3 tags are, or how to get them, they can be found inside your WordPress tool bar at the top of your little editing pad.
Core Component #3 – Keyword Hyperlink In First 160 Characters
This is something that not a lot of SEOs know about. However, when a search engine first crawls your website, or a new post on your website, it will index the first 160 characters of your post as a display for the search engines, unless otherwise specified. By not only including your keyword right away, but also hyperlinking it, will give you a quick boost to whatever keyword you are trying to rank for may be.
Core Component #4 – Keyword Rich SEO Tags
Tags are like keywords, you tag your posts with keywords people would type into the search engines to find you. Pretty easy right? Just make sure that you pop over to the Google Keyword Tool and type in your main keyword for suggestions you might have missed along the way. That’s how you find the gold 😉
Core Component #5 – Keyword Rich Images
An elusive SEO trick that can get you more traffic from image search results simply by renaming the images you post on your blog. This is something that I picked up from Squidoo a long time ago and have use to get my images places all over the search engines like crazy ever since. We highly recommend that you take the time to do so yourself as well.
BONUS: Keyword Density
Now back in the day, people use to just spam pages with keywords and it would get them ranked because Google was young and still developing its algorithms. Today, spammy tactics work less and less, because at the end of the day, Google wants the most relevant information to the search that people are doing. You will win in SEO by providing EXACTLY what the searcher is looking for.
Keyword Density comes into play when you are targeting a specific keyword to rank for in your SEO efforts. And in that case, it’s wise to mention the keyword a few times in your blog post so that the search engine spiders know what to crawl and how to categorize your website. If they find relevant content on a specific topic a few times over in your post, they will most likely rank you for that keyword or phrase.
Our rule of thumb is 2% to 5% keyword density. You can measure this with a really cool SEO plugin for your WordPress blog called SEO Pressor.
SEO Pressor allows you to write content for your blog and then automatically calculate an SEO score for that particular blog post. This effectively lets you get more rankings fast by quickly analyzing your score so you can pump out content on the go. No on page seo checklist would be complete with out it.
