Whenever people ask me about making money online, and how I do it, they’re most common question is how do I get “FREE TRAFFIC”.
And what I tell people isn’t what they want to hear…
You need to understand that no matter what, you are ALWAYS paying for your traffic. Only difference is that it either costs you time or money.
So, in other words, free traffic costs you time, and in my case, when I first started, all I had was time and no money. So I was forced to learn things like SEO and blogging in order to get traffic to my affiliate links and make money. Not to mention have a blast creating content. 😉
In this quick and effective blog post, I am going to show you the TOP 10 ways I used to drive massive amounts of traffic to my websites when I first started.
Let’s dive in…
#1. Viral Videos
Creating viral video content is by far one of the most effective ways to send large amounts of your traffic to your website fast! All you do is include a link in the description box of your YouTube video.
I always tell the story of how my friend bought a viral video account of this kid playing guitar and it ended up getting something like 10 million views. So when they acquired the account, they simply posted an affiliate link to a ‘how to play guitar’ product on Clickbank and immediately started making $700/day.
That just goes to show the potential of what viral videos on YouTube hold.
Get out there and start creating!
Facebook is #2 because at the time of writing this, it ranks #2 in the world wide web for the most trafficked sites online. Meaning it has massive potential to send you retarded amounts of traffic, fast.
Since Facebook has become so big, there are a number of ways to extract traffic from this beast. It could almost be a sub category of this post, but I’ll be brief.
You can use Facebook Groups to infiltrate places where people talk about all things related to your niche. This is the perfect place to drop a valuable blog post link that helps your niche. Or to connect with people on a more personal level.
You can take the YouTube concept and post all sorts of viral content on your profile relating to your niche and build a targeted following of people who fall in love with your brand and share your content for you, making it go socially viral.
And I’ll give ya one final FB free traffic strategy that rocks!
You can build a Facebook Fan Page that goes niche viral. The key here is to get extremely niche specific. The more niche you go, the more passionate the people will be, and the easier it will be for you to get traffic, go viral and make money! Hoooray!
#3. Forum Marketing
There are millions of people using thousands of different forums every single day online, and you can easily tap into them as a massive free traffic source for you.
Here’s how it works.
On forums, when you first join, it’s like being the new kid in school. Which means, that before you try to sell anybody stuff on the new forum you just joined, or try to do anything promotional at all, you need to build up some trust. And on a forum, you do that by getting your post count up. Post all around the forum until you get a few hundred posts to your name. Now people will know who you are.
Then, once you’ve established that bank of good will, you can post a ‘Forum Signature’ with a link to your stuff. When you do this, everyone will click on it and you can funnel that traffic wherever you want. Like a squeeze page or an affiliate link!
#4. Twitter Hashtags
Being the vast place that it is, Twitter also has many was to generate free traffic to your websites by creating viral Tweets.
But what I did in the very beginning, was begin leveraging Twitters trending topics to generated loads of free traffic to my websites, build an email list and earned affiliate commissions. I did this by using the trending topics keywords as Hashtags in my Tweets, writing something clever about them and dropping a link to my capture page. I usually saw a 20% to 25% conversion on that capture page an 1% to 2% of those to sales. Very effective.
In the past few months, we have seen an explosion of business related Instagram Profiles. And the cool part is, people are actually receptive to it quite well on Instagram, more so than in other places. This means opportunity for you.
So whatever it is that you got going on, needs to become an Instagram Profile as a means of generating viral traffic to your website URL in an effort to generate leads or makes sales of some kind.
For example, if you’ve got a business where you specialize in breeding and raising Pitbulls, then you should be posting pictures of Pitbulls all day and talking about the controversy of the breed being violent.
By far, Podcasting is one of the most underrated ways to generate loads of free traffic to your website.
If you got something to say and can record it via audio, you can take that file and syndicate it across multiple networks like iTunes, SoundCloud and many more to create lots of free exposure for your brand or business.
Just remember that the key is to talk about something really cool that the peeps in your niche will absolutely love, then at the end, is where you give the call to action to buy or go to a website and optin. You can also introduce yourself and give your .com as part of your introduction.
This could possibly be the most powerful generation of free traffic generation online, which is why it’s lucky #7.
When starting a blog, I highly recommend you do it on WordPress because the search engines love those kind of websites, and it will be easy for you to use, manage and update without having to learn code.
Blogging serves as kind of a centralized hub to all your online activity. So in many of the instances we’ve talked about here, you may actually providing your blog URL, such as on your Facebook or Instagram. The social platforms act as a means of viral traffic generation which push a % of that traffic to your blog, from where you further deliver on your brand, content, value, or whatever it is that you are doing.
Your blog is also the place where you have a lead capture page or optin on the sidebar where people can give your the email address. Once they do, that is the point at which you need to make a product recommendation, cause that’s how money is made! lol
People often underestimate the power of Craigslist.
It’s one of the top 100 sites in the world for a reason. It’s got mad traffic!
You can post ads on Craigslist that will generate you 25-50 leads per day. But the catch is Craigslist community will likely flag your ad if its too promotional or if it goes directly to an affiliate link. But there are ways around that.
One of the best ways to work Craigslist, is to have the person send an email to your autoresponder. So it would be like firstname.lastname@example.org.
This will optin them into your list and is not seen as intrusive by Craigslist or the community. That tip right there was straight gold. Run with it.
LinkedIn is like Facebook for corporate people! lol
Being a skateboarder, I’m not a big fan of wearing suits or corporatism, but I would also be a fool to ignore LinkedIn’s traffic.
Basically, anything you would do on Facebook, should not be done on LinkedIn. It’s a place that can be much more promotional than Facebook, you can openly advertise your business, your brand, and your business interests and the people will be much more receptive to your message, because this is the place to post it.
LinkedIn’s audience is also much more affluent than Facebook. Meaning that the people who actively use LinkedIn make much more money than people who use Facebook regularly. And as a business owner, you’ll know that it’s much easier to make 1 $10K sale than it is to make 1,000 $10 dollar sales. Ya digg?
This can be the holy grail of traffic generation because nothing could be more enticing than being ranked in the first 10 results of Google for a highly trafficked keyword. That could result in thousands of free visitors to your website each and every day.
Imagine what that would do for your business. How many leads you would be able to generate daily, how many sales you would make on autopilot.
There is a certain way you can do this, certain things you have to do in order for Google to give you that ranking. Like targeting a specific keyword in your post, or getting backlinks to your best blog post. There is A LOT that goes into doing SEO the right way, but here’s the most important thing you need to know.
The web is becoming social. And therefore, the search engines value real human interaction THE MOST over anything right now. So if you want to rank high fast, and stay there, then you need to write viral pieces of content that people naturally want to share with each other. Doing this will guarantee you traffic for a lifetime.
BONUS TIP: #11. Buy An Ad
As I’ve grown my business and became fascinated with creating sales funnels, improving conversions and generating leads, I’ve spent a lot time mastering what I think is the most important skill anyone could ever know. Turning paid advertising into profit.
Therefore, what I like to do now days is spend my money testing and measuring the effectiveness of other advertising sources online. I buy things like banner ads, text links, and solo ads all the time. And then I measure how well each ad performs, if it brings me sales, how many leads it got, etc. Then I remove what doesnt work and start scaling up what does.
I’ll do an article on more paid advertising in the future when the time is right.
To Sum Things Up…
When it comes to traffic generation, it’s never free. You either pay with your time or your money.
And in this case, when we are talking about free traffic, the name of the game is content creation. You must create some kind of engaging content, even if it is as simple as posting a Pitbull picture on Instagram, or as engaging as creating a blog post designed to go viral.
It’s all crafted in such a way that it draws people to it, they love what they saw or read, and then they share it with their social circle, creating traffic for you, for life.
What kind of free traffic generation method was your favorite?
